Cruising on the Holiday Boat - the Marion Seagull

Going east on the Union Canal.
You start your cruise by going up through The Falkirk Wheel as described in the Wheel Trip link as far as the Boathouse where it is possible to tie up for a while.  You then folllow the route described in the Two Hour and Three Hour links which takes you as far as Redding.  From there you continue east through Polmont and thence to Lathallan Road where there is a very tricky section under the road.

Going West on the Forth & Clyde Canal.
You start off by descending through the lock which leads down from the Basin to the Forth & Clyde Canal.  Once down turn left and cruise along to the lifting bridge at Bonnybridge which will be opened for you.  Not very far through the bridge you reach the first of the four locks which will raise you to the summit level of the canal.  This lock is Lock 17 beside the Underwood Lockhouse which is now a restuarant.  British Waterways staff will help you to negotiate this lock and all the others on the canal.  Once on to the summit section you cruise on to the new Marina at Auchenstarry where there is a convenient restuarant and moorings.  Continuing west you come to Kirkintilloch where there is another Seagull Boathouse and beyond that you come to Maryhill and the first of the 19 locks which lead through Clydebank, the Dalmuir drop-lock and down to the River Clyde at Bowling.  The pictures below show some of the things you will see during your  cruise.
